Operation Day

The Big Day Has Finally Arrived!!!

I arrived at the hospital at 7am with my sister and daughter. The nurse introduced herself and showed me my room which is where I was going to be for the next 24hours or more. She asked me some questions, took some medical measurements e.g: blood pressure, weight, temperature etc and gave me some beautiful paper top and shorts to wear for the surgery. The nurse explained they are the new style instead of the old hospital gowns - how lovely… My sister and daughter made me do a cat walk to show the full effect – I wondered why they were in stitches laughing…

Dr M arrived at 7.30 am; he was so relaxed which made everyone comfortable in his presence. He explained that I would be going into surgery very shortly. He took some more photographs, asked some medical questions and drew some drawings on my breasts, confirming that I was going to have 380g implants.

The anaesthetist arrived 5mins later and asked some more questions. I told him that I have experienced sickness after anaesthetic previously and he assured me that he would give me an injection to prevent this. He too seemed really nice which gave me reassurance.

7.45am two theatre nurses arrived. They even brought me a theatre bed to wheel me down there – how embarrassing. I can never understand why they wheel you down to theatre instead of letting you walk! I kissed my sister and daughter good bye and made them promise me that they would be in the room for my return – they laughed and asked “where else are we going to be?”

10.30am I was back in my room feeling rather groggy. Its funny but I could not feel any pain but just tightness across my chest. However, I was aware I had a needle in my hand which the Dr had said he was going to give me some IV antibiotics and fluids, they had probably given me some painkillers too.

My sister and daughter were there as promised and for the rest of the day they comforted me whenever I needed them. I slept on and off all day long. I remember hearing their low voices when talking which reassured me that they were there. Every time I woke we all admired my breasts - I must have slept with a smile on my face! I was very shocked on how well I felt, other than sleeping all the time and tightness across my breasts there was nothing else. At one point I remember going to the toilet, putting on my lipstick and telling them I could just go for a run – then 1 minute later they told me I was fast asleep again LOL.

I managed to wake to have my evening meal – I was so hungry I ate it all. Although I did give my cake to my youngest daughter – who arrived with my husband a short while later whilst I was sleeping – what a surprise… They too admired my breasts, my husband looked pleased but I think he was just relieved that the surgery was all over.
